    Toys For Tots & Teens "Sweets & Treats Reception - Power107 @ 11:45 am CST
    The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., A Service Soriety Since 1913, the Yazoo City Alumnae Chapter  is hosting a Toys for Tots and Teens, Sweets and Treats Reception, Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Triangle Cultural Center, immediately following the Christmas Parade.  Donation:  One Toy or Youth Gift .  Toys may be dropped off at the following locations:  The Triangle Cultural Center, The Parent & Community Resource Center, and the Yazoo Herald.   For more information, contact Francine Wallace at 662-746-6264 or Diane Delaware at 601-832-8175.



    Christmas Open House Planned in Flora - Power107 @ 11:36 am CST

    The Flora Area Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to Christmas Open House at A Hidden Secret, Saturday, November 22 and Sunday, November 23rd, from 1-5pm.  

    There will be  a ribbon cutting ceremony at The Blue Rooster, located across from the gin by the railroad tracks on Main Street, on Friday, December 5th, at 10am.

    Bill Cosby Coming To Mississippi Delta - Power107 @ 11:23 am CST

    Bill Cosby is scheduled to speak Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenwood to highlight a community event.  The event will begin with a march that organizers say will be a sign of solidarity against crime and hopelessness.   Cosby is scheduled to lead the march at Broad Street in Greenwood.  He is set to speak at Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenwood at 6pm.

    In an election held today, to elect a new Alderman for Ward 3, the voting went as follows:

    Dave Collins             39  Votes

    Dunbar Henry          70   Votes

    Clifton Jones          184   Votes

    Charley Strong        29   Votes

    This is the un-official votes in today's election, for Ward 3 Alderman,  held at the Fire Station on Washington Street in Yazoo City.

    Voting is underway today in Ward 3, to elect a replacement for James Magee, who recently stepped down as Alderman.  Polls will be open at the Fire Station today until 7pm.   POWER 107 will be you the election returns from City Hall as soon as the final vote is counted.   Tune in to POWER 107 for election coverage tonight!



    A.G. Helton - Spirit Of Yazoo Award - Power107 @ 10:36 am CST
    The 89th Annual Chamber Banquet was held last Thursday night at McCoy Elementary School in Yazoo City.   The theme this year, "Moving Yazoo Forward for a Brighter Tomorrow".  The crowd was entertained by the Yazoo City Ensemble and Guest Speaker was Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.  The Spirit of Yazoo Award, sponsored by King's Daughters Hospital was presented by Gary Andrews to A.G. Helton.  Wayne Morrison presented the Humanitarian award to Hattie Williams;  President Award to Gary Andrews, and the Hero Award to Bank of Yazoo.  The Pioneer Spirit of Service was presented by Michael Walker from Bellsouth to Steve Kaminski.

    A Toys for Tots and Canned Food Drive is under way in Yazoo City, to benefit the Dept of Human Services Child Welfare and needy familys and individuals in Yazoo.  Toys and Canned Goods  can be dropped off at any Fire Station in Yazoo City.   For more information, contact Wanda at 746-5325.

    The Rev. Ken Lynch, Pastor of Parkview Church of God, and the Rev. Kenneth Benjamin, Co-chairman of the Yazoo City Ministerial Association and Pastor of Yazoo Word of Truth Christian Cneter, invites everyone to the Community Thanksgiving Service on Sunday evening, November 23, 2008 at 6pm at Parkview Church of God, located at 1750 Highway 16 East.  This is a traditional service where all churches in the area come together to give thanks to God for the blessings of this life.  The preacher at this service will be Rev. Georfe F. Woodliff III, rector of Trinity Church  and Chairman of the Yazoo City Ministerial Association.

    Secretary of State, Delbert Hoseman will be the guest speaker tonight at the 89th Annual Meeting of the Yazoo County Chamber of Commerce.   The Meeting will be held at McCoy Elementary School Cafeteria at 7pm.   Tickets are $25 and tickets are still available.  The Theme of this years meeting is "Moving Yazoo Forward for A Brighter Tomorrow".
