Mrs. Lee was born March 3, 1933 to the late Harris A. Speairs, Sr. and Rebecca Pettigrew Speairs. A former elementary school teacher, Mrs. Lee became a homemaker after her marriage and resided in Bentonia until 2011.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Herbert Lee. Survivors include her son, Harris Lee (Tanya McCann Lee) of Bentonia; daughter, Aimee Lee (Jeff Warren) of Brandon; sister, Nora Speairs Gainey of Satartia and three grandchildren; Holly Lee, Jessica Lee, and Savannah Lee of Bentonia.

Cecelia Thomas, of Yazoo City, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2013. She was 86 years of age.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James T. Thomas, and her brother, Franklin Lewis. At the time of her death, Cecelia resided at The Blake in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Cecelia was born in Satartia, Mississippi on August 9, 1926. She attended the University of Mississippi where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Yazoo City, Mississippi. Cecelia was also a member of the Yazoo City Country Club.
Cecelia and Dr. Thomas had a passion for flying and enjoyed flying their Mooney airplane throughout the Southeast. Cecelia was so devoted to flying that she took lessons and soloed in their plane. Cecelia was also an accomplished artist and enjoyed painting landscapes in her pastime.
Cecelia is survived by her sister, Julia Lewis Rowan, her niece, Diane Rowan Drake and her nephew, Dr. Randal K. Rowan, all of Atlanta, Georgia. She will be missed by her family and friends.

And boy did he live a life worth living. He has touched so many by sharing his life experiences. Although he was not a man of many words over the past few years, not by choice but by circumstance, he taught us so many things. I cannot look at a National Geographic or watch The History Channel without thinking of him. He taught me to play porker and beat the best of them at spades. In our family, he was "The Most Interesting Man in The World." He will be missed by many and remembered by many more. William Edward “Bill” Atkinson, 68, of Pickens, Miss., died Monday, April 8, 2013, at Glenwood Medical Center in West Monroe, La., following a brief illness. He was born December 29, 1944, in Yazoo City to William Samuel and Eliza Burrus O’Reilly Atkinson. He attended grade school and high school in Yazoo and Holmes Counties and graduated from Holmes County Agricultural High School. He then attended and graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1969, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He married Sandra Brown Atkinson of Columbia, Tenn., and they had one daughter, Britton Davis Watson, and three sons, Joseph Clark, William Powell, and Benjamin Brown Atkinson. Bill spent his life’s work as a political campaigner, oil man and third generation cotton farmer. He also served briefly as a United States Marshal. The last several years he spent working with his two eldest sons at Peak Fibers and Goetz Cotton in Holly Ridge, La. Throughout his life Bill was admired for his gift of conversation and insurmountable knowledge of local history and the War Between the States. His passions included history, genealogy, the Civil War and family. He was an active member of the Mississippi Sons of Confederate Veterans and served as the Commander for the entire state from 2009-2011, and also served on the Board of Directors for the Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library, Beauvior, Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Liza Atkinson, and brother, James Nolan “Jim” Atkinson. He is survived by: Sandra Atkinson; son Clark and his wife Lesley Atkinson of Oxford, Miss.; son Will Atkinson of Rayville, La.; son Ben and his wife Marisa Atkinson of Pickens, Miss.; daughter Britton and her husband Gregory Watson of Florence, Ala.; grandchildren: Eliza Kate and Cal Atkinson; Campbell, Fletcher, Ford and Jackson Atkinson; and Win, Austin Hall and Lotti Watson. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Burton Atkinson of Lexington, Miss.; and sisters: Ann Simmons of Columbia, Miss., Rose Anderson of Yazoo City, Miss., and Grace Buchanan of Ridgeland, Miss. He served in the United States Army as Captain during World War II. When Mr. Holiday made his residence in Albany he started the National Peanut Research Laboratory in Dawson, GA and was a member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church where he was Chairman of the Administrative Board and President of the Fellowship Sunday School class. He also served as President of the Golden K Kiwanis Club. Mr. Holiday was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Rogers Holaday and his second wife, Janet Van Cise Rainey, and his brothers, Wade and Ben Holiday. Mrs. Ada Hood Brase, 85, formerly of Yazoo City, Mississippi, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at 12:46 p.m., at her home in Saginaw, Texas. She died peacefully in her sleep with her eldest daughter, Elizabeth, by her side. Born in Sunflower County, Mississippi, Ada moved with her mother and family to Yazoo City, Mississippi, in the 1940’s. Later, she moved to the Mississippi Gulf coast where she met her future husband, Louis C. Brase originally of Edwardsville, Illinois. Together, they lived and raised their family in Biloxi until the children went to college. The Brases then moved to San Angelo, Texas, before eventually retiring and moving back to Mississippi, settling in Ridgeland. Mrs. Brase was very loving and devoted wife and mother; and she was much loved by those who knew her. She was a talented homemaker, especially gifted in the kitchen. She was a longtime member of the Methodist church and worked for many years as church secretary for two congregations. She was also a voracious reader and a collector of classical music. Mrs. Brase is preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Nettie Gilmore Hood, siblings, Johnny, Wilmer, Otis, Ethel, Lucille, Florence, Lawrence, and J.W., and her husband Louis C. Brase. Pat enjoyed a long life of distinguished service to the Catholic Church, Holmes Community College, Yazoo City and County, and the local and statewide banking communities. Born in Camden, Mississippi, on April 3, 1922, Pat was the oldest son of Daniel Patrick and Annie Ruth "Polly" Pace McGowan. He attended Camden Public Schools and graduated from Holmes Community College in 1942. During World War II, Pat served in the Army Air Corps. After the war, he graduated from Mississippi State University, with Honors, in Agricultural Economics. He served as the Extension County Agent for Yazoo County, which led him to the Bank of Yazoo City as Agricultural Agent. After receiving an additional degree from the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University, Pat rose rapidly through the ranks at the Bank of Yazoo City, eventually serving as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board. He also completed a term as the President of the Mississippi Bankers' Association from 1987 to 1988, as well as two terms of the American Bankers' Association Leadership Committee.Active in wide-ranging areas of community life in Yazoo City and County, Pat served as President of the Community Action Board and as a board member for 25 years. He also acted as President of the Yazoo Library Society, the Yazoo County Chamber of Commerce, the Yazoo County Red Cross, the President of the Yazoo County chapter of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association, and the Service Corps of Retired Executives.During the 48 years he was a member of the Board of Trustees of Holmes Community College, Pat served as President for a 25-year span, overseeing the construction and expansion of the Ridgeland Campus, including the Technical Service Building, which bears his name. Recipient of the Holmes Community College Distinguished Award in 1987, he also served Mississippi's Community College system during his two terms as President of the Mississippi Association of Junior and Community Colleges. Hyram (Fess) S. Grey, 83, of Yazoo City, Mississippi, died on January 31, 2013, at home after a lengthy illness surrounded by family and friends. He was born March 31, 1929, in Mayersville, Mississippi, the son of the late Hattie Lowery Grey and Josh Grey. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Fess served our country serving in the U. S. Army during the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star Army of Occupation Medal. Fess was a member of Yazoo Lodge No. 42, F. & A.M. for 55 years. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois H. Grey, three daughters, Pamela Grey Johnson and husband Danny of Vicksburg; Diane Grey Braswell and husband Anthum of Greenwood; Lois Dawn Grey of Yazoo City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Rosie Wardlaw of Vicksburg, Juliette Moore of Bentonia, Betty Grey of Yazoo City and Mary Alice Strickland of Yazoo City; three brothers, Huey Grey of Kansas, Glenn Grey of Yazoo City and Eugene Grey of Utica. Fess is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Grey was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Charlotte Ann Grey; one sister, Inez Davis; and two brothers, Frank O. Funeral services for Gerald Lee Glascoe, a long time resident of Yazoo City, MS, who departed this life and entered into his heavenly home on Monday, January 28, 2013, at the age of 75. He died at home under the loving care of his family and Continue Care Hospice. Survivors include his wife, Rosalyn Brandt Glascoe, sons, Gerald Lee Glascoe, Jr. ( Sue) and Joe Lynn Glascoe (Kelly), two special "Daughters", Andra L. Owens (Kendall) and Tami K. Cox (Joel), and six Grandchildren. Gerald was a graduate of Arkansas State University, served his country in the United States Air Force during the time of the Cuban crisis. After retiring from the farm equipment business, he worked as County Administrator of Yazoo County, MS. Following his career as Administrator, he spent almost two years rebuilding houses on the MS Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina, under the auspices of the MS Baptist Disaster Relief. Gerald also coordinated the rebuilding effort in Yazoo county following the 2012 tornado. He has been a member of First Baptist Church for 40 years, serving in various capacities. Gerald's passion in life was simply to serve his Lord. Arrangements include visitation Thursday, January 31st from 6 - 8pm, and 9:30 to 10:30am on Friday, February 1st at Stricklin King Funeral Home in Yazoo City, with interment at Glenwood Cemetery. A devout Christian, she was a former member of Parkway Baptist Church. She graduated from Central High School in 1944. While attending Mississippi College, she received a Bachelor’s degree with a major in English. After college, she worked at the Mississippi Military District in Jackson from 1951 – 1955. Camille married Chris Henick, Jr. on February 13, 1955 and became a member of Yazoo City First United Methodist Church. She had a sincere love and unwavering faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. In Yazoo City, she had been a member of the Kings Daughters Auxiliary, Garden Club, Jaycettes, Church Circle, and Bible Study Group. She loved painting and reading. Camille often said her greatest joy were her children. She especially loved spending time with her six grandchildren, and painting and drawing for each of them. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband and soul mate of 52 years, Henry Christopher Henick, Jr., infant granddaughter Carrie Henry, and son-in-law Robert D. Henry of Madison, MS. Survivors include her son Chris Henick, III of Washington, D.C., and his wife Ingrid Henick, and their children Henry Christopher “Kit” Henick and Simone Alleta Henick; daughter Melanie Henick Henry of Madison, MS, and her children Matthew Timmons Henry and Meredith Hope Henry; and daughter Camille Henick Evans and her husband, John Evans of Ridgeland, MS, and their children Christopher Hewes Evans and Parker Montgomery Evans; sisters-in-law Love Henick Seawright and her husband, Robert Seawright, and Zoe Y. Henick; niece Lisa Lynn Henick; niece Ida Henick Yerger and her husband, Hunter Yerger; two great nieces and one great nephew; and many special friends. Pallbearers are Henry Barbour, Mark Bardwell, Thomas Hines, Ed Jordan, Burck Stevens and Hunter Yerger.
